Walsall TUC Stands Against Hate: Report on the Counter-Protest

The Walsall TUC, works to protect the status of the teaching profession and deliver real improvements to teachers' and school leaders.

Project Description

On Saturday 1st March members of Walsall Trades Union Council (TUC) attended a counter-protest in response to a far-right demonstration which took place in Nuneaton. The counter-protest, organised by local anti-racist and community groups, was a stand against division and hate, reaffirming our commitment to solidarity and unity.

The far-right demonstration aimed to spread fear and division within our community. However, Walsall TUC, along with trade unionists, faith leaders, and anti-racist activists, gathered in numbers to peacefully oppose this rhetoric. Our presence sent a clear message: WE will NOT tolerate hate, and WE STAND firmly in support of our diverse communities.

A Peaceful and United Front The counter-protest remained peaceful, with chants and speeches emphasising the need for unity, social justice, and the rejection of extremism. Walsall TUC members engaged with fellow demonstrators, reinforcing our ongoing work to challenge racism and discrimination in all its forms.

Solidarity in Action As trade unionists, we recognise that the fight against hate is part of the broader struggle for workers’ rights, equality, and social justice. We will continue to stand alongside communities facing discrimination, ensuring that our town remains a place of inclusivity and mutual respect. Walsall TUC thanks all those who attended and reaffirms our commitment to opposing racism and fascism wherever it arises.
