Celebrating Black History Month: Exploring the Black Country's Links to Enslavement

As part of Black History Month 2025, Wolverhampton TUC is hosting an insightful evening with Dr Angelina Osborne and Roger McKenzie on Wednesday 8th October at the Heritage Centre, Clifford Street, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton (WV6 0AA).

The event begins with a cold buffet at 7pm, followed by the presentation starting at 7:30pm.

Dr Osborne will share the findings of her groundbreaking research into the local connections to those who profited from enslavement, as well as the manufacturing of ironware used in plantations. This work shines a light on the Black Country’s historical links to slavery and its economic impact.

In addition, attendees will receive free copies of Dr Osborne’s two books:

  • The Black Country & Enslavement: Manufacture of Agricultural Tools
  • The Black Country & Enslavement: An Overview

Roger McKenzie will also contribute to the discussion, bringing his perspective and knowledge to the event.

This event is open to all and offers a unique opportunity to learn about local history, engage with important research, and reflect on the legacy of slavery in the region.
